Purpose of the TRAV Barbara Baird Instructor Scholarship Fund (“The Fund”)
To assist TRAV member centers and individual members in good standing, in accordance with TRAV By-Laws, in receiving financial assistance to attend a sanctioned educational program which is designed to meet continuing education needs established by PATH. Examples of educational programs include, but not are limited to: instructor certification for new instructors, continuing education courses to include Advanced or Master Level certification courses, funding to attend state, regional, or national conferences, or hosting an educational training by a TRAV member center.
Eligibility for Fund Distribution
Any TRAV member center in good standing located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, or any individual TRAV member in good standing who is 18 years or older.
Application Criteria
Applicant must:
- Have volunteered or worked with a TRAV member center for a minimum of one year
- Demonstrate a commitment to the field of therapeutic riding in the State of Virginia
- Demonstrate a desire to apply knowledge gained through scholarship monies to support the field
Guidelines in Distributing Funds
The TRAV Board of Directors has the authority to award no more than $300 per year to an individual member or member center in good standing upon completion of a sanctioned educational program. Scholarship monies will be distributed throughout the TRAV Barbara Baird Instructor Scholarship Fund, calendar year in the order in which applications are received, until the fund has been depleted.
Process for Distributing Monies from Fund
Applicants complete the TRAV Barbara Baird Scholarship Fund application found on the web site and submit it electronically to the point of contact as designated on the TRAV web site at least one month prior to the date in which the applicant must register for the educational program. The application will be reviewed by a committee comprised of not more than 3 board members designated by the Board of Directors. The chair of the Scholarship committee shall be appointed by the president and is responsible for responding to the applicants, coordinating committee meetings to review applicants, collecting and maintaining the documents submitted by the applicant upon completion of educational program, instructing the treasurer to distribute scholarship monies to applicant, and reporting to the board.
Process for Distributing Monies from Fund
Upon completion of educational program, applicant will submit evidence of course completion. Financial distribution will be determined solely by the TRAV Board of Directors.
Administration of The Fund
The TRAV Treasurer, with oversight by the TRAV Board of Directors, will be authorized to administer the fund and said disbursements to member centers or individual TRAV members in good standing.
Term of The Fund
To assist individual TRAV members or TRAV member centers in good standing to pursue continuing educational opportunities as required by PATH. At no time now or in the future, is the TRAV organization and/or its Board of Directors obligated to pay monies to centers or individuals for educational advancement.
Investment of Funds
“The Fund” will be endowed with a minimum of $2,000 that is specifically set aside to assist individual TRAV members or TRAV member centers in good standing to receive financial scholarships for specific continuing educational training. Implementation and administration of said Fund will be the responsibility of the TRAV Treasurer with guidance from the TRAV Board of Directors.
Dissolution of The Fund
The TRAV Board of Directors will have discretion in the dissolution of the fund.
